Challenge:
The city of Pleasant Hill grew up after World War II without
a downtown core. The city leaders wanted to create a city
center focus for its citizens. Land was limited and parcels
were small.
Vision:
To assemble enough land, adjacent to the central freeway (Hwy
680), to create a retro-style downtown centered on a main
street with retail frontage, entertainment (theater and bowling
alley), civic (City Hall), public (fountained plaza) and residential
uses.
Results:
With city assistance, we acquired over 80 parcels of land,
completed all entitlements, developed and leased this 335,000
square foot, 75-unit award winning project. Today, downtown
Pleasant Hill is the example of modern suburban downtown development
and the winner of several awards.
